They know that one can be unjustifiably angry, afraid, or insecure. They need to be able to identify the "parts" of their thinking, and they need to be able to assess their use of these parts of thinking.
If your thinking is overly pessimistic, it will deny you due recognition of the many things in which you should properly rejoice. How could we find out if that is true? They know how to think beneath the surface and how to expand their thinking to include insights from multiple perspectives.
Good critical thinking requires having a command of these standards. Whatever you feel—all your emotions—are determined by your thinking.
